Community Concerns Regarding A Traffic Stop in South West Omaha

Police released the following statement after public concerns relating to an afternoon traffic stop in South Omaha.

The Omaha Police Department has received several inquiries about a traffic stop conducted in south Omaha earlier today. This press release is issued to address those community inquiries.

On Thursday, February 23, 2017, agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) contacted the Omaha Police Department requesting the assistance of a uniformed officer in a marked cruiser. The marked cruiser was needed to safely conduct a traffic stop for an ongoing criminal investigation. The traffic stop was conducted at 3:21 PM in the area of 24th and L Street by an OPD K9 unit. Subsequent to the stop and as part of their investigation, the DEA contacted and requested the assistance of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The Omaha Police Department routinely provides assistance to other law enforcement agencies on the local, state and federal levels as requested.
