Injury Accident at 72nd & Crown Point Leaves Infant in Critical Condition; Injures Six Others

An evening crash left an infant in critical condition and injured 5 others.

Emergency personnel were called to 72nd and Crown Point around 9:07 PM Monday, February 13, 2017 for a collision between a Buick Lesabre and a Nebraska Humane Society Chevy Express van.  Shortly after their arrival OFD crews notified dispatch that they had multiple patients injured and they requested additional ambulances.

In total five people were in the Buick Lesabre and two were in the Chevy van.

Medics transported a 10 month old infant to Nebraska Medicine in Critical Condition.  Police have identified her as Hayela Heter as the middle rear passenger in the vehicle.  She is currently being treated for a critical closed head injury.

Medics also transported 3 others to be treated at Nebraska Medicine for their injuries.

Forty Four year old Cynthia Johnson who has been identified as the driver of the Lesabre is being treated for a knee injury.  Twenty One year old Alexus Russell who was the front seat passenger is being treated for several complaints of general pain.

The left rear passenger of the Lesabre has been identified as 14 year old Ethel Sims who is being treated for a lower leg injury.  The right rear passenger of the Lesabre was identified as 2 year old Aleyah Jeter and did not report any injuries at the hospital.

Two additional patients were transported to CHI Health Immanuel Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries from the Humane Society Chevy van.

The driver of the Chevy van was identified as 25 year old Brejhan Sieling.  He is being treated for an arm injury.  The passenger of the van was identified as 30 year old Sonja Rowland who is being treated for several complaints of general pain.

The investigation revealed that a white 2009 Chevrolet Express Nebraska Humane Society van was traveling southbound on 72nd Street.  As the van was in the midst of passing by Redick Avenue, it was struck nearly “head on” by a northbound maroon 2004 Buick Lesabre whose driver attempted to turn left into the Sorensen Park Plaza Shopping Center.

The collision remains under investigation by Omaha Police Department Traffic Investigators.

7200 Redick Avenue

On Monday, February 13, 2017 at 9:07 p.m., personnel from the Omaha Police and Omaha Fire Departments responded to 7200 Redick Avenue to investigate a personal injury collision. The investigation revealed that a white 2009 Chevrolet Express Nebraska Humane Society van was traveling southbound on 72nd Street. As the van was in the midst of passing by Redick Avenue, it was struck nearly “head on” by a northbound maroon 2004 Buick Lesabre whose driver attempted to turn left into the Sorensen Park Plaza Shopping Center (located to the west of 7200 Redick Avenue). All occupants of both involved vehicles were transported to Omaha area hospitals to be treated and/or evaluated for injuries sustained in the collision. A 10 month old female passenger of the Buick was administered life saving measures by Omaha Fire/Rescue while being transported to the hospital.

This collision remains under investigation.
