Pedestrian critically injured after being struck by a vehicle at 19th & Douglas Street

A pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle at 19th & Douglas Street this evening.

Police and fire rescuers responded to 1900 Douglas Street to investigate an injury accident involving a pedestrian Monday at 5:59 p.m.

Police said a grey 2007 Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on 19th Street and had just passed by Douglas Street under a green traffic signal when it collided with a male pedestrian.

The pedestrian was walking across 19th Street from west to east and a non-cross walk when he was struck.  The pedestrian was transported by medics to Nebraska Medicine to be treated for severe injuries sustained in the collision.

The driver of the Altima did not report any injuries.  Excessive speed and alcohol were not factors in this collision which remains under investigation.

The driver of the Nissan Altima was identified as 29 y/o Benjamin L. Nixon of Omaha. The pedestrian was identified as 35 y/o Aaron M. Demike of Omaha is being treated for a head injury and a leg fracture which are not considered life-threatening.
