On Sunday at 10:35 p.m. officers and fire/medics were dispatched to a single vehicle injury crash at Lake Cunningham near 91st & Bennington Road on State Highway 36.
A westbound 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis left the roadway, struck several reflective posts, and continued down a different abandoned roadway (old Hwy 36). The sedan left the abandoned roadway, struck a bridge guardrail, vaulted into the air, and landed upside down in Lake Cunningham.
The driver and only occupant swam to shore on her own and was found by a passerby on the road above who called 911.
The driver, identified as 30 year old Trina Charon of Omaha, was transported by medics to Nebraska Medicine with serious non-life threatening injuries. Ms. Charon is being treated for a broken arm / ribs and charges are pending.
The driver admitted to smoking marijuana and methamphetamine prior to the crash.
Arrow Towing removed the vehicle from the lake the next day with the assistance of a local dive team.
