One person has died after an early morning rollover injury accident on Interstate 80.
The accident occurred on I-80 westbound, west of 96th Street and was possibly a hit and run. A vehicle traveled off the Interstate about 100 yards and rolled over into a creek / ditch.
Police arriving on scene attempted to rescue the victim but they were trapped inside vehicle.
Medics pronounced the victim deceased on scene. No immediate description of the hit and run vehicle was given.
Police have since identified the victim as 29 year old Jose Rogelio. Police also stated that damage on run vehicle has now been determined to be on driver’s side of vehicle (light colored mid sized SUV, fled westbound on I-80)

On Sat 7 Jan 17 at 0156 hrs, officers were dispatched to a personal injury crash at I-80 westbound at mile marker 447 (approx 99th St). The investigation revealed that a black 1999 Toyota 4-Runner SUV was westbound on I-80 when it left the roadway on the north side. It went down a grassy shoulder, vaulted over a drainage ditch and overturned into some trees approximately 300′ from the interstate shoulder. The unrestrained driver / lone occupant was declared dead at the scene by Omaha Fire Medics.
Witnesses describe that the Toyota made contact with a mid-size light colored SUV. The SUV should have significant passenger side damage.
